IF POSITIONS OF RACKING/SHELVING OR MACHINERY ON OR BELOW THE MEZZANINE ARE KNOWN PLEASE FAX OR EMAIL AN APPROPRIATE SKETCH OR DRAWING
DECKING: 38mm high density particleboard is the most commonly used decking medium. It has a high load capacity and a long life. A number of alternative decking mediums, such as steel grating or durbar steel plate, are available. If an alternative to natural finish 38mm particleboard is required tick the appropriate box below.

HANDRAIL: Typically handrailing 1100mm high, with hand and knee rails and kickplate is required to all open edges of mezzanines. For added safety and security two metre high handrail with mesh infill is often supplied. This can prevent goods falling. Partitioning on office use mezzanines can negate the need for handrailing.
* Quantity required: metres.    State if standard type
PALLET GATES: Loading goods onto mezzanines must be done in a manner that ensures the safety of operatives on and below the mezzanine. Pallet safety gates ensure that during the loading/offloading process there will always be handrailing between operatives on the mezzanine and the open edge.
* Quantity required:      Pallet height: mm
STAIRCASES: To design access & egress in accordance with current regulations, guidance is given in Building Regulations. Typically, in an industrial situation, only one means of escape is allowed if the distance to the fire exit door is less than 25 metres actual travel. Two staircases, correctly positioned, can increase the travel distance to 45 metres. In some cases an upgrade to an ambulant access staircase may be a requirement.
* How many staircases do you think you will need? quantity required:
FIRE RESISTANCE: 1 HOUR FIRE RESISTANCE IS NORMALLY REQUIRED IF:
  • the mezzanine is more than 20 metres in any plan dimension (10m if smoke detectors are not planned)
  • the mezzanine takes up 50% or more of the total area of the hall in which it stands
  • personnel are working permanently on, or below, the mezzanine
NOTE: FIRE RESISTANCE REQUIREMENTS MAY BE RELAXED IF THE BUILDING IS SPRINKLERED.
It is assumed that the site is clear and level
that power and free use of a forklift truck are available
