Maximizing Space and Efficiency: MiTek's Mezzanine Solution Transforms Business Operations

The Customer

Founded as a UK start-up to provide white label e-commerce services, our client operates international websites that take major brands directly to consumers worldwide. In addition to working with global FMCG and retail players, the company has also built an impressive portfolio of its own brands.

 

The Project

When planning to build a new facility at its headquarters site near Manchester, the customer invited MiTek Mezzanine Systems to quote for the freestanding mezzanine system within it. The MiTek team had previously designed and installed mezzanine solutions for three of the company's other buildings. The new development would be used for automated sortation and storage.

 

The Challenge

The company wanted a solution  that would suit potential expansion at a later date, in order to meet the  evolving needs of its client base:  
→ Requirement for additional space to be provided quickly, with the  ability to create additional space in the future  
→ The customer wanted smooth integration with its automated  material handling systems, including an Autostore solution  
→ Need for efficient movement of  goods and optimum space  utilization to drive cost savings  for the company's clients.  

 

The Solution

MiTek Mezzanine Systems designed a phased programme to deliver the  21,558 sq m (232,048 sq ft) mezzanine  system in line with the customer's  requirements:
→ 3 levels of steelwork installed mid-2021 but only mezzanine  level 1 (15,000 sq m) was fitted with decking and put into  operation initially  
→ The top 2 levels were completed and made operational in early 2022  
→ Phase 1 was completed in just 8 weeks and phase 2 in only 6 weeks  
→ The mezzanine solution features MiTek's new C24 continuous  handrail throughout.
